First of all, let me introduce myself...My name is Tao wimae Or Agar and I am Half Akha. I finished High School in Myanmar in 1993. I studied about 9 subjects in high school. They were Biology, History, English, Geography, Economy, Chemistry, Maths, Physics, and Myanmar. All of these subjects were taught in English, so I started to use and speak English when I was young. I speak English, Akha, Thai, Lahu, Myanmar (Burmese), Shan (Thaiyai), Lawa, and Chinese (Lisu).
I was born in the countryside in the north of Myanmar and lived in the jungle from the age of 5. When I was 19, I left school and taught English in a school on the border between Myanmar and China. All this time, I lived, trekked, foraged and hunted in the jungle. I learned about the jungle plants; which are edible, which to use to heal, and which could kill in painful and horrible ways.Different types of plants have different uses. For example, different types of bamboo are used for building, cooking, as cups, or as chopsticks.
All this I learned during my life in the jungle. Altogether I have about 20 years experience, and now I am a trekking guide. I enjoy sharing and teaching about the Akha hilltribe ways, especially how to use bamboo as fire, food, and handicraft. I can teach about the herbs and remedies of the jungle, how to relieve pain without artificial chemicals. The animals are shy around here, except for the snakes - watch out! There is however a huge variety of birds and insects, so bring your binoculars.
